Wedding Anniversary Adventures 8th August 2026

We decided to stay closer to home today and head just south of Oban to the Isle of Seil.  This is where you can cross over the Atlantic Ocean at the Clachan Bridge, or as it’s more commonly known ‘Bridge over the Atlantic’, dating from 1792. We pulled over at a small car park just […]

Wedding Anniversary Adventures 5th August 2026

We were really looking forward to today’s all day cruise aboard the MV Sileas with Loch Shiel Cruises.  We’d made arrangements to park in the Glenfinnan House Hotel car park for the day at a cost of £5.00 (which you can get back if you eat in the hotel) rather than park up in the […]

Wedding Anniversary Adventures 2nd August 2026

Our first Wedding Anniversary Adventure on 2nd of August was my anniversary present to David – I had booked him a two hour Falconry Experience at Kintail Birds of Prey. In the village of Eredine on the banks of Loch Awe this is Argyll’s only collection of Scottish native birds of prey.  There are over […]

Gardening with Autumn is on its way

Common frog near a log pile at Fern Villa Guest House Ballachulish

Gardening with Autumn on its way, as the rain stopped for a couple of days we managed to get out in the garden and do a bit of work.  With all the bad weather the garden has turned into a bit of a jungle. We spent the first afternoon cutting back trees and bushes that […]

Autumn in the air

Loch Leven from the shore at Ballachulish

On our walk this morning we felt Autumn in the air, although the low cloud had burnt off by the time we got home and there was warmth in the sun again. We took our time and spent a while sitting on a rock at the edge of Loch Leven. We were awarded with sittings […]

Evening Walk

Sunset over Loch Leven

17th April 2019 We took an evening stroll and watched the sun set and the moon rise.  It was still mild and very pleasant.  It was lovely to watch the sun set over the hills in the distance.

Lunch Time Walk

Inchree Waterfalls Onich

17th April 2019 We took a pre-lunch walk to Glen Righ, near Onich. It is only 10 minute drive away by car and has a red squirrel spotting station although we didn’t see any on this trip and plenty of plants and lichens to see.  There were a group of people on the water fall, canyoning I think, […]

The Birds

Oyster Catchers on Ballachulish Shinty Park

10th March 2019 A few birds spotted on our recent walk around the village.

A few hours out in the sunshine

Fern Villa Guest House Ballachulish Yellow Azalea in front garden

As all guests were stopping over we had the chance to make the most of the sunshine for a few hours.  We picked up a sandwich at the CoOp and pulled into a layby on the loch side en-route for a quick lunch.  Then on for a few more miles to Kinlochlaich Garden Centre.   […]

Rainbows, Red Kites and the Russet Hues of Autumn

A place for all seasons Autumn Trees reflected in Loch Leven

We did the drive up to Golspie yesterday to collect our sack of newly ground oatmeal direct from the mill.  Although a long drive it is a scenic one and we enjoyed dozens of rainbows all the way up; so as you can imagine we were driving through showers and then sunshine, showers and then […]

New Player

Young Heron outside the Shinty Pavillion Ballachulish

On Wednesday we had a visitor to the Ballachulish Shinty Park, a young heron, I think he will have to sign up for the Under 14’s though.

Rowan Berries

Rowan tree berries at Fern Villa Guest House Ballachulish

I’ve just noticed that the rowan trees are already showing their berries, I’m sure they are earlier than last year.  The rowan is supposed to ward of witches and other supernatural beings so I’m glad we’ve got a few dotted around the garden.
