Directions

From The South

Travelling north from Glasgow on the A82, after you have driven through Tyndrum, you will climb up onto Rannoch Moor and then through the Pass of Glen Coe. When Loch Leven appears on your right you have just under a mile before you turn left into Ballachulish. After the left turn into the village you turn left again into Loanfern, Fern Villa is then just 150 yards on the left hand side.

Travelling north from Oban on the A85 travel for about 5 miles and turn right at Connel (you will see the Connel Bridge crossing the water) onto the A828, continue for about 26 miles until you come to a roundabout (you will have driven under the Ballachulish Bridge). At the roundabout take the first exit. Travel for approximately 2 miles and take the first right into the village and follow the road round to the left, after about 300 yards turn right into Loan Fern by the Laroch Restaurant and Bar. Fern Villa is then just 150 yards on the left hand side.

From the North

After leaving Fort William on the A82 travel for approximately 11 miles, you will then cross the Ballachulish Bridge and come to a roundabout, take the 2nd exit. After approximately 2 miles take the first right into the village and follow the road round to the left, after about 300 metres turn right into Loanfern by the Laroch Restaurant and Bar. Fern Villa is then just 150 yards on the left hand side.

Our car park is directly opposite the house in the walled area outside of the holiday lets Quarry Cottages. We have 4 spaces here (please keep the space nearest to the cottages free as this is for Cottage 1). If all spaces are taken we have additional parking, off road, at the side of the house.

Additional Information

SatNavs tend to take you past the house so when you turn into Loanfern by the Laroch Restaurant and Bar look up the road and you will be able to see a large sign saying Guest House on the side of the house.

Unfortunately we don’t accept pets. Although service animals are welcome along with their well behaved owners.

There is a local bus service which runs between Fort William and Kinlochleven. Plus an infrequent bus service that runs to Oban. We are also on the City Link route that runs from Glasgow to Skye. The nearest train station is in Fort William where you will be able to catch a local bus to Ballachulish.

We ask at time of booking if you have any special dietary requests. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any requirements. This allows us time to travel further afield if our local shop doesn’t stock certain items.

Unfortunately it is not possible to predict the weather. There is a saying that in Scotland we can get 4 seasons in one day, which quite often proves to be the case!

It is pronounced Ba-la-hoo-lish

It translates as the village by the narrows.  It really applies to North Ballachulish which is where Loch Leven meets Loch Linnhe by the Ballachulish Bridge.  A narrow stretch of water where until 1975 a turntable ferry operated.
