Lounge

Relax in the lounge after your day out exploring.

See What's Inside

Lounge

The Lounge is at the front of the house and faces west, on clear days we are usually awarded with fantastic views of the sun setting behind the Ardgour Hills. Please come in and relax after your day out exploring. We will light the open fire on chilly evenings.

We don’t have a T.V. in this room.

Book

Books

On the bookshelf you will find books and information about the area. There are also some Scottish magazines, reference and fiction books.

Fireplace

In November 2018 we ripped out the 1970’s yorkstone fire surround and replaced it with a restored cast iron Victorian fireplace, new mantel piece and bookcase. The fireplace and the tiles show thistles which we bought to match the original coving in the room which is ferns and thistles.

The hearth is Ballachulish slate. we found it in the garden when we had the garden landscaped. David wanted to make a bench out of it but I thought it would be put to better use in the house!

We look forward to having the fire lit on cooler evenings.

Original Features

The Lounge and Dining Room have decorative plaster coving, the other rooms have just plain plaster coving.

The staircase has decorative wrought iron spindles.

It is interesting to see that the woodwork in Fern Villa looks to be the same design as in other Victorian properties around the area. I wonder if the same craftsman made them all?
